Curaçao recovered from a first-set loss to defeat Trinidad and Tobago 3-1
WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao, July 19, 2025. – Curaçao recovered from a first-set loss to defeat Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21) in an exciting CAZOVA Men’s Final Four match.
Trinidad and Tobago made a strong start, taking an early 6-2 lead. Curaçao head coach Henrich Daal called a strategic timeout, and the hosts responded with improved serving and attacking. After closing the gap to 10-11, Trinidad and Tobago regained control to win the opening set 16-25.
Curaçao bounced back in the second set, maintaining their composure to edge Trinidad and Tobago 25-23 and level the match.
The third set was evenly contested early, with the scores tied at 2-2, 6-6 and 7-7. Curaçao then pulled away to claim the set 25-20 before carrying that momentum into the fourth to complete the comeback victory.
Curaçao head coach Henrich Daal credited the opponents for their excellent playing style which forced his team outside their comfort zone.
“Trinidad came prepared for us, they made us work hard and fight for it. We had to make some changes to the game plan to achieve our goal and now we prepare to face Barbados.”
Trinidad and Tobago head coach praised Curacao team as well.
“I am proud of my team, we played our best game today, much better than yesterday. However Curacao have been together for quite some time, so they have that chemistry and they do prepare for tournaments larger than this one.”
Curazao Remonta para Derrotar 3-1 a Trinidad y Tobago
WILLEMSTAD, Curazao, 19 de julio de 2026.– Curazao se recuperó tras perder el primer set para imponerse a Trinidad y Tobago por 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21) en un emocionante encuentro del Campeonato Final Four Masculino de CAZOVA.
Trinidad y Tobago comenzó con fuerza, tomando una ventaja temprana de 6-2. El entrenador de Curazao, Henrich Daal, solicitó un tiempo técnico estratégico, y los anfitriones respondieron con una mejoría en el servicio y el ataque. Después de acercarse 10-11, Trinidad y Tobago retomó el control para adjudicarse el primer set por 25-16.
Curazao reaccionó en el segundo parcial, manteniendo la calma en los momentos decisivos para superar a Trinidad y Tobago por 25-23 e igualar el partido.
El tercer set fue muy equilibrado en su inicio, con empates 2-2, 6-6 y 7-7. A partir de ese momento, Curazao tomó el control del juego para llevarse el parcial por 25-20 y trasladó ese impulso al cuarto set, donde completó la remontada con un triunfo de 25-21.
El entrenador de Curazao, Henrich Daal, reconoció el mérito de su rival y destacó que su estilo de juego obligó a su equipo a salir de su zona de confort.
"Trinidad vino muy bien preparada para enfrentarnos. Nos hizo trabajar muy duro y luchar por cada punto. Tuvimos que hacer algunos ajustes al plan de juego para alcanzar nuestro objetivo y ahora nos prepararemos para enfrentar a Barbados."
El entrenador de Trinidad y Tobago también elogió el desempeño del conjunto curazoleño.
"Estoy orgulloso de mi equipo. Hoy jugamos nuestro mejor partido, mucho mejor que ayer. Sin embargo, Curazao lleva bastante tiempo jugando junto, tienen esa química de equipo y además se preparan para torneos de mayor nivel que este."
